Several days and shoot days in one project

MultiSyncer Studio article · 3 min read

A multi-day shoot is kept in one project: every shooting day has its own sync and sequence, the days line up in order, and at the end the “Project report” collects all shoot days. If the footage already sits in day folders, “Batch process days…” syncs and exports them all in one go.

One project for the whole shoot

A shoot over several days or shoot days goes into one project. Days and shoot days, even months apart, are synced as a whole: they line up in order without overlaps, and long breaks turn into a minute on the timeline. Every shooting day has its own sync and its own sequence, which is saved to the project folder on its own.

1

Set the shoot days in the setup

The “Shoot days” section: how many shoot days are planned in total, the call and wrap times. “The day ends at” is for night shoots: until that time the footage counts as the same shooting day.

2

Copy every day

Each day's footage goes into its own folder on the drives, and the “Shoot days” section shows for every date the call and wrap times, cameras and recorders, how many cards, the volume and whether the copies are verified.

3

Choose the day on “Sync”

Click the project name at the top of the “Sync” page and choose the day in the “Shooting day” section. Every shooting day has its own sync, saved to the project folder on its own. Today is marked “copying now”.

4

Wrap the day every evening

“Wrap the day” syncs the day and puts an edit project on every drive. At the end of the shoot the “Project report” collects all shoot days: crew, cards, the copy check, where the footage is.

Batch processing of shooting days

If the footage already sits in day folders (for example, it came from a shoot without MultiSyncer), it can be processed in one go: “Batch process days…”. It is in the project menu (the button with the project name at the top of the “Sync” page), after New, Open and Save.

  1. “Add folders…”: one folder per day.
  2. Choose the “Editing application” and “Where to save the results”. The sound, pause and marker settings are taken as on the “Export” page.
  3. “Process”: for every folder the app finds the devices, syncs, exports and saves the project. Renders and music are skipped.
  4. For every day you see the stage (“Finding devices”, “Synchronizing”, “Exporting”) and the result: “Done: 42 of 48 by sound”. A finished day can be opened with “Open project”.

FAQ

The shoot ran over several days. Is it one project?

Yes. Days and shoot days, even months apart, are synced as a whole: they line up in order without overlaps, and long breaks turn into a minute on the timeline.

What about a night shoot?

Set “The day ends at” in the project setup: footage until that time counts as the same shooting day.

How do I process many days at once?

“Batch process days…”: add the folders, one per day, choose the editing app and the folder for the results, and press “Process”. Every folder is synced and exported separately.

Is there a report for the whole shoot?

Yes: the “Project report” collects all shoot days in PDF and CSV on the project drives.
