Multicam editing: a ready project in one pass
For a multicam edit every camera and the sound must be in sync, on their own tracks and with clear names. On a day with many camera and sound stops, preparing this in an editing app takes a lot of time. MultiSyncer Studio syncs the whole shoot at once and hands over a ready project: XML for Premiere Pro, FCPXML for DaVinci Resolve, a multicam clip for Final Cut Pro, AAF and ALE for Avid.
What is missing when you prepare multicam in an editing app
| Task | Preparing in an editing app | MultiSyncer Studio |
|---|---|---|
| Syncing cameras and sound | Editing apps sync the selected clips when you create a multicam. On a day with many camera and sound stops the footage takes a long time to prepare by hand, gets synced in parts, and you hunt for errors yourself. | The whole shoot is synced with one button, and every shooting day gets its own sequence. |
| Angle names | Which camera is which angle has to be set up and checked by hand. | Tracks get their names from the project setup: “A · wide”, “B · close-up”. |
| Long takes | The sound slides away by the end of a take if the device clocks run differently. | Clock drift correction on export: the sound is resampled to the camera's speed. |
| Takes of one line | Laid out by hand. | Takes stacked, or a sequence for each take. |
| Pauses | Empty stretches where no camera is rolling are cut out by hand. | Pauses can be kept, shortened, or the clips joined. |
| Fails from the set | Found when you stumble on them. | QC issues arrive as markers: fails in red, undecided in yellow. |
How to prepare a multicam edit in MultiSyncer Studio
Sync the shoot
Add the footage after the card offload, or in “In the edit room” mode drop the camera and sound folders. Press “Synchronize”: cameras, recorders and phones land on their own tracks. More in the article “How to sync audio and video”.
Choose the editing app
On the “Export” page:
- Premiere Pro and Vegas: XML;
- DaVinci Resolve: FCPXML 1.9;
- Final Cut Pro: FCPXML 1.10 with a multicam clip;
- Avid Media Composer, EDIUS and Pro Tools: AAF and ALE;
- any other app: EDL.
Set up the sequence
- the sequence frame rate and frame size, the sound, the track names;
- pauses: keep, shorten or join;
- takes of one line stacked, or a sequence for each take;
- templates: “Interview / podcast”, “Course / lecture”, “Event / concert”, “Fiction / commercial”, “Shoot without a sound recorder”, “Quick rough cut”, “Shorts / Reels”;
- QC issues: everything found, fail and not decided, or fail only; clips marked “Fail” can be left out.
Open it in your editing app
A handover note on how to open the project in the edit sits next to it. In the evening, “Wrap the day” puts an edit project on every copy drive: the editor gets it together with the footage.

Camera names reach the edit
In the project setup every camera and recorder has a letter, an angle, an operator, a lens, a LUT and a comment for the editor. The names reach the editing app as angles, tracks or bins, depending on how that app does it.
