Shooting day report: what is in it and how to send it

MultiSyncer Studio article · 3 min read

The shooting day report builds itself from what was on the cards: the summary, crew, issues, cameras and cards, thumbnails, the file table and the sound report. It is updated after every card and finally assembled on “Wrap the day”, with a handover note for the editor next to it. The report sits on the drives, goes to the producer by mail and can be uploaded to the cloud.

When the report is made

If “Make the day report” is on in the project setup (“Reports” section), the report is updated after every card is copied and finally assembled on “Wrap the day”. Then the “Footage check” and “Synchronization” sections are added, and a handover note for the editor on how to open the project in the edit is placed next to it.

What is in the day report

  • the summary of the day and the call and wrap times;
  • the day's crew;
  • issues: the footage check findings;
  • cameras and recorders with their cards;
  • clip thumbnails (with the camera LUT if you like);
  • the file table: timecode, format, checksum and copies of every file;
  • the sound report for the recorders;
  • notes of the day.

The sections are ticked in the setup, in “What it holds”. There is also a separate colorist report (colour and format, ISO, white balance, lenses, LUT) and an editor report (scenes, takes, good takes, sound).

Where the report goes and how to send it

1

To the drives

Reports sit on the drives in the “_reports” folder next to the day's footage. You can add one more copy of the reports in another folder.

2

A mail to the producer

“Letter with the report”: when you wrap the day, a mail with the day report opens, addressed to the given addresses. If dailies are made, their link goes into the mail and the report.

3

To the cloud

Reports can be uploaded to Yandex Disk, Google Drive or Dropbox together with dailies, sound and proxies.

4

On set

The offload progress is shown on a phone by QR code: the phone and the computer must be on the same Wi-Fi.
